Still more new faces with both new and traditional games
The pub was buzzing Sunday night and we had the pleasure of welcoming a number of new people who had come along to play both traditional games as well as our more modern offerings.
Having been going since the beginning of the year it is always really encouraging when new people appear having discovered us via one of the many advertising mediums we use.
On this occasion three of the new faces found us via our Boardgamegeek postings and Facebook. Although I think they would consider themselves ‘gamers’ familiar with much meatier fair than we typically have on offer at the Blue Anchor games evenings, they willingly took on the challenge of playing a variety of lighter weight games they had not played before. In more than one case these were games they had heard of and wanted to play but not had the opportunity to play before.
It is in the nature of the evenings that we offer a range of games (typically we have 30 to 40) that can be taught in very quickly, (seconds in some cases) have a relatively short playing times and typically have a fairly high level of player interaction. Whilst offering varying combinations of luck v’s tactical decision making they require no previous experience or knowledge, so can be played by everybody irrespective of their age, educational background, technical ability or level of general knowledge.
Basically games suitable for families, social gamers (people who play games for fun but would not call themselves ‘gamers’) and non-gamers alike.
Later in the evening we were joined by a larger group who appeared happy to play amongst themselves in the corner with some traditional games they had brought along.
Games played last night included: Straw, Patrician, Discworld: Ankh-Morpork, Hey! That’s My Fish, TransEuropa, The Dwarf King and Scrabble.
More photo's from the evening can be seen here.
Our next event at the Blue Anchor, Crowborough is in two weeks time on Sunday 11th December starting at 7pm - £1 per head. More details can be seen on our Facebook Page Social Gamers - Crowborough
